Longrun Meadow junior parkrun . Report for the first event of this new parkrun on 24.5.15

Posted this report on our Langport Runners Facebook group page yesterday.

Managed to get to Longrun Meadow, Taunton by 8.45 this morning for the first junior parkrun in Somerset!! I will still claim that we were first with our Northmoor fun run. Amazing turnout. Some of the juniors actually did the 5k run on the same course on Saturday! That is a great advantage in attracting runners which we don't have. I would recommend any of our juniors to try it as long as its not June 7th! They don't do the 1k option either so average age is probably higher. I must go to do the 5k version some time.

178 runners  for a first event.

Langport North Moor 1k and 2k Fun Run

We had an excellent run last sunday, our 7th, and the weather was kind to us! Before the run we presented certificates to two runners who had completed 5 events. I'm sure we will do this at 5 , 10, and 15 events over the next few months for a lot more runners.

We always get a few first timers, often brothers and sister who have decided to give it a go. All ages from 4 to 14 years. All abilities.

I was pleased to get a mention in the newsletter from our local Yeovil Montecute 5k parkrun where I have clocked up 21 runs myself.

Part of a news item from Martin Chaffey and the Montecute team

It's Saturday morning and it is raining, not - perfect for a bit of running round Montacute!
Just a quick update ahead of Tom’s Run Report to catch up with some "parish notices"...

comments about the London Marathon and then this plug!

Children’s Fun Run – Langport – tomorrow, Sunday 3rd May
A reminder that the next North Moor children's fun run is on Sunday 3rd May starting at 10 am ,registration from 9.30 am. This time starting near the Tesco Metro store. Parking is allowed at the store car park for the run. Start and finish and registration will all take place near the store end of the path.
This time they hope to be able to make the 2k event a single lap by  extending the course along the broad river path to the railway bridge and return for the 2k. The 1k will stay on the path as before.
Extra marshals will be used on the extended route.
They will be stopping for refreshments or even a late breakfast at the Bow Wharf Cafe afterwards. Art Tea Zen cafe is also open for coffee and cakes opposite the Langport Arms
