Monthly junior fun run

Sent this email as a reminder for next Sunday and shown here to let you see what we are busy with.

Sent to all fun runners , parents and supporters by blind copy.

Dear fun runners
We all enjoyed the Battle of Sedgemoor 2.6k Fun Run and 10k road race last Sunday. Congratulations to those who took part.
The weather forecast is looking good for next Sunday and we look forward to seeing you all again.
After nearly 12 months of events, we welcome feedback.
How can we encourage more youngsters to join us?
For instance would it be better to start at 9.30am or even 9.00am like the “parkrun”. Would that help the many football enthusiasts to run?
Is Sunday the best day?
Would you welcome and support more frequent events?
Please let us know what you think, we want to attract as many youngsters as possible.
For parents, if you would like to support your children by trying a little exercise yourself, Langport Runners has a beginners 'run walk' group which has helped a lot of people to get started. Please ask for information.
Our next events are on Sunday, 4th October and Sunday, November 1st which will be our official 1st birthday!
As always we rely on your help with marshalling, please let us know if you will be available.
The volunteer chart below shows where we still need some help.

Nicky Chrascina ran the Cotswold 24hr race!

Here is a report from Langport Runners Newsletter Editor.

"Hi Langport Runners

Did you know that Wonder Woman was a member of the club? She is.
Her name is Nicky Chrascina and today she came 1st place in the Solo Female category in the Cotswold 24hr race !!

She ran 126km in 22hrs 43min 52seconds ! Ridiculous isn't it! How is this possible you are thinking. See what I mean, she is Wonder Woman!

We are not worthy Nicky.... we are not worthy.

You can find the full results here."

Langport North Moor fun run 7.6.15

Just sent this message out.

Sent as a blind copy to all North Moor fun runners and friends.

Langport North Moor 1k / 2k fun run. The 8th monthly event since last November. Next run will be on July 5th.

Results for a great run this morning at the end of Langport Festival week. Many thanks to all who volunteered to get our enthusiastic young runners to the start line! That obviously includes parents and friends and those who helped with the organisation and as marshals. All very much appreciated. Several of us ended up enjoying the live music at the Bow Wharf Cafe as we relaxed after the run.
The results are very rewarding for everyone concerned. Some new runners and so many personal bests. But consistent results are just as important, PB’s will follow in good time.
We have another 5 runners who have qualified for a 5 run certificate to be presented at the next run or as soon as possible.
As usual we will try to let the schools know as well but please pass them on yourself if you wish.

( there were 20 runners this month from age 3 to 10 years from 7 different schools!)

Langport North Moor 2k / 1k monthly and free fun run Sunday 7th June at 10 am

This Sundays event we are calling a Festival fun rue as it is on the last day of Langport's week long Town festival.

Been sorting through the small jobs which we need to get  ready for Sunday's Junior run. The 8th in this new series. We base it very much on the "parkrun" model.
Trying to make sure we have the few key volunteers for time keeping for which we use an iPad, a finish marshal who gives out the numbered cards to allow us to match position with time and  few more marshals to keep an eye on the young runners. Asking mums and dads to marshal on the day  is not usually a problem. My wife sorts out the registration sheets which is key to keeping control of who is running and which option they choose i.e 1k or 2k. We started giving the 1k runners a sticky coloured lable so we could make sure they only run the shorter route. We try to keep it as simple as possible
We have had over 50 juniors running this event but so far they haven't all turned up at the same time so we have ranged from 12 to 25 runner per events so far. It seems to be more popular with the younger age range.
We must try to get to grips with finding one or two volunteers who can take on an event as organiser so we can have a break.
We have followed parkrun policy of giving some reward for numbers of event run by issuing certificates , So far we have issued two last month for 5 events completed and Sunday will see another 2 being presented.  At Easter we gave everyone a sweet which went down well. Perhaps we can get some local sponsorship for such extras. So far it is going very well and not had to cancel a single event due to bad weather since we started last November. Amazing I think. The forecast is looking good again for this Sunday.

Longrun Meadow junior parkrun . Report for the first event of this new parkrun on 24.5.15

Posted this report on our Langport Runners Facebook group page yesterday.

Managed to get to Longrun Meadow, Taunton by 8.45 this morning for the first junior parkrun in Somerset!! I will still claim that we were first with our Northmoor fun run. Amazing turnout. Some of the juniors actually did the 5k run on the same course on Saturday! That is a great advantage in attracting runners which we don't have. I would recommend any of our juniors to try it as long as its not June 7th! They don't do the 1k option either so average age is probably higher. I must go to do the 5k version some time.

178 runners  for a first event.

Photos can be seen on the Longrun Meadow junior parkrun web site at this link:

Langport North Moor 1k and 2k Fun Run

We had an excellent run last sunday, our 7th, and the weather was kind to us! Before the run we presented certificates to two runners who had completed 5 events. I'm sure we will do this at 5 , 10, and 15 events over the next few months for a lot more runners.

We always get a few first timers, often brothers and sister who have decided to give it a go. All ages from 4 to 14 years. All abilities.

I was pleased to get a mention in the newsletter from our local Yeovil Montecute 5k parkrun where I have clocked up 21 runs myself.

Part of a news item from Martin Chaffey and the Montecute team

It's Saturday morning and it is raining, not - perfect for a bit of running round Montacute!
Just a quick update ahead of Tom’s Run Report to catch up with some "parish notices"...

comments about the London Marathon and then this plug!

Children’s Fun Run – Langport – tomorrow, Sunday 3rd May
A reminder that the next North Moor children's fun run is on Sunday 3rd May starting at 10 am ,registration from 9.30 am. This time starting near the Tesco Metro store. Parking is allowed at the store car park for the run. Start and finish and registration will all take place near the store end of the path.
This time they hope to be able to make the 2k event a single lap by  extending the course along the broad river path to the railway bridge and return for the 2k. The 1k will stay on the path as before.
Extra marshals will be used on the extended route.
They will be stopping for refreshments or even a late breakfast at the Bow Wharf Cafe afterwards. Art Tea Zen cafe is also open for coffee and cakes opposite the Langport Arms

Langport North Moor Junior 2k Run

Reminder sent to all our fun runners.

North Moor  Junior 2km Run

Our next event will be a week earlier than usual, on Sunday 3rd May, 10.00am start as usual.

Subject to conditions on the day, we hope to extend the run along the river bank to make it a one lap run. We will start at the Tesco end and the 1km runners will turn around when they get to the river. We hope this will make it a more interesting run for the 2km runners, but we will of course need extra marshalls to help on the day.
We will be presenting certificates to two runners, Harry Burdge and Lance Stadden, who have completed five out of the six events so far. The next target will be ten events completed.

Some of our regular runners will be taking part in the Inter Area primary schools cross country championships on 28th April at Ilton. I will be sweeping part of the course and look forward to seeing you taking part or coming along to support.

Langport Northstreet Moor Fun Run April 12 th and May 3rd

Langport Northstreet Moor 1k and 2k fun run report.  April 12th
Lovely sunshine again for our 6th monthly run. Eight first timers and nine regulars who achieved four PB's between them. It was great to see two runners keeping the Easter spirit going by dressing up for our Fun Run. I really appreciate their contribution.
A family atmosphere is developing with brothers and sisters coming to try it for themselves and all very welcome. We hope the small treats waiting for the finishers on this occasion were a suitable reward for their hard work.
Pleased to welcome Martin Chaffey with his daughter Ellen for the first time. Martin plays a big part in the Yeovil Montecute 5k parkrun and has given us encouraging support. I personally recommend our older runners consider trying the bigger run or even part of it. It has a friendly and relaxed approach to running which we try to copy.
Here are todays results: (Figures in red are for the 1k run and PB shows a new personal best time for the event over the 6 runs )

Name Age School Time

Beau Butera 6 Curry Rivel 5.11

Luke Richards 7 Curry Mallett 5.51 1st timer
Esme Burdge 5 Curry Mallett 6.12 PB

Theo Paget-Wilkes 6 Middlezoy 6.16

Keira Adams 6 Hambridge 6.27 1st timer
Eloise Adams 6 Hambridge 6.37 1st timer
Matthew Richards 4 Curry Mallett 8.07

Noah Butera 4 Curry Rivel 8.12 1st timer
Mackenzie O'Dea 9 King Ina 9.19 PB

Ellen Chaffey 4

9.25 1st timer
Harry Burdge 8 Curry Mallett 9.31

Erin Toomer 6 High Ham 9.39

Martha Macpherson 7 Meare 10.56 PB

Ernie Fields 7 High Ham 10.56 1st timer
Freddie Macpherson 5 Meare 12.45 PB

Ella Fields 9 High Ham 13.48 1st timer
Lucy Parr Mercer 5 West Kirby 13.52 1st timer

The next event will be on May 3rd and will see a change to the course and the starting point which will be at the Tesco end of the path. The 2k run will now extend along the river bank to the railway bridge and return the same way to finish back near the Tesco footbridge. This will be a single lap of 2k. The 1k run will start at the same point but only use the path to near the river as at present and return to the start. We hope this will be an improvement for the runners.
We have talked to the Tesco store management and they are happy for us to use their car park on a sunday morning.
Thanks to all our runners and parents and grandparents. Thanks for volunteers for marshalling and carrying out the various tasks which are essential to the success of our run. Please spread the word about us and keep running till next time.
Regards,
David and Jackie.

Langport North Moor Junior 1k and 2k fun run April 12th 10 am Langport.

Just posted this reminder on our Facebook page: Langport Junior Fun Run

Our 6th fun run, a bit special for us, is on Sunday April 12th, register from 9.30 am, start 10 am. Town Garden. There might be a little Easter treat for runners this time.
If you want to come along in Easter fancy dress for our Easter Fun Run Party please do. We can try to get a good photo in the local press.
Now that we will have completed 6 runs I have been looking again for the May event to extend the 2k course along the broad track of the Parrett up to the railway bridge and back. Probably starting near Tesco's to make a single 2k lap. Extra marshals will be necessary and other details need checking so more news later.
As usual we will need a few volunteers to help out on the day.
Look forward to seeing you all again,
David

PS Don't forget its free to enter and open to boys and girls , all ages from 4 to 14!

parkrun -- Yeovil Montecute

A very big turnout this morning at Montecute. (http://www.parkrun.org.uk/yeovilmontacute/) It always amazes me that every week there is a large group of first timers , must have been 20 or more. Official results will tell us exactly soon.
Many families with under ten children  and I hope some of them will want to come and try our Langport North Moor fun run (https://www.facebook.com/groups/585909574842989/)which is unashamedly based on the Junior parkrun formula! I would like to see this event become an official Junior parkrun when we feel we have enough volunteer support and can raise the rest of the money we  need to get accepted by parkrun UK. If you think its worth supporting let me know.
Hope to have a few new runners in our fun run on April 12th in Langport.
