Why do we run?
What is the value and purpose of running especially long distance running?
I've just listened to a recording of a discussion held in Bristol at the Bristol Festival of Ideas.
Its a very interesting discussion on aspects of running with questions from the audience which included some serious runners. My own two half marathons hardly register when compared to Emily Canvins recent 100 mile run. I would like to hear Emily's views on the subject or comments from anyone else reading this Blog!
Mark Rowland is a Professor of Philosophy and has written a book called "Running with the Pack".
You can hear his views on running based on his own experiences as a runner of one marathon and a lot of more general running in the context of his work as a Professor of Philosophy.
You will need half an hour or so to listen to the recording which you can hear at this link:

When you get to the web site you will need to scroll down to find Mark Rowland.
or you can buy his book: "Running with the Pack"

Langport Runners Junior Club Report
Results from local 3k race.
Run in the Wild
First Girl, Holly.
Second overall and and second Boy , Sam.
Kameron also competed and did well in 8th overall.
The recent Primary Schools Biathlon produced a good one / two for our Juniors with Dom and Will and Holly, first Girl finishing in 8th overall.
Just taken delivery of our new Junior Club tee shirts and they look good and smart but what will our Juniors think about the colour and design. Find out next week after our Monday training session.
Following on the grant we received from the County Council recently we have ordered some £300 worth of equipment to make our training sessions more interesting and productive.
Still trying to get one or two members on UKA Coaching courses. Difficult to find relevant courses at times to suit and at reasonable locations and price. Not easy.
Started on a new flier to aid recruitment. Along the lines of "10 good reasons to Join LR Junior Athletic Club"
Here are some of them.
Overall report on first 6 months of 2013. Excellent spirit and team work in the Club and improving performances in local races. Great support from Parents which is vital.
