I very much like his post on a road test of the "On" Cloudster running shoe. Having just finished reading "Born to Run" it sounds an intriguing way to try something new!!

3rd day of the Mile Event Festival
Last night brought our Festival to a successful close. Over £50 raised for Sport Relief!
Over the three days our best Junior times were Sam 6.00 minutes, Hannah 6.01and 18 individual miles raced all with times ranging from 6 min to 10 min.
Then in the Paarlauf Relay the best Junior team with Holly,Sam, Hannah, Dom and William Allen got the baton round four laps in 5 min 35 sec.
For the seniors , best time set by Adrian our guest runner , was 4 min 48 sec, Richard from Chard Runners managed a very good 5 min 27sec. All on a grass track.
Good write up in today's Western Gazette with a photo of our Juniors and coaches.
I'm sure someone said we must do it all again later this summer and certainly next year!!

Mile Festival Day 2
A very wet afternoon for the Academy to get their runners out but they managed one mile and Staff joined in as well. They had also invited Hambridge Primary along and they came with four teams and ran with great enthusiasm. When I get the results and times I'll collate them all and send them on.The Huish Biathlon was also taking place at the same time and I saw
Holly,Will and Dom all doing their run in the rain and wind. Great to see it all going on. So now just praying for a dry evening tomorrow for the last Mile events with Adrian Marriott to set the pace. A team of 5 Juniors achieved 4 min35sec last night so we have to beat that? Weather forecast is for sunshine!

Face Book post on last nights event
"A sensational start to our Mile Festival. It didn't rain but it was very windy and quite cold. The running was anything but cold. 24 runners took part in two individual mile races and then followed up with a four team Paarlauf relay race .Best individual mile time was 6:00 min by Sam Ough closely followed by Hannah with 6:01 (in two separate races so neither had close competition).Other 6 min times from Kam,Will,Dom,Kane and 7 min times by Edward,Holly,William Allen,Sarah Hill,Kieran ,followed by George Ough,Erin,Neeve,Zara and Paige. In the all Junior relay team of Holly,Sam,Hannah,Dom and William Allen achieved an impressive 4 min35sec. Four teams in total. The supporters gave every one a lot of noisy encouragement! (to keep warm I think!) and the evening was a great success.
Fantastic running, congratulations to all. A big thank you for the help of parents and supporters. A special mention to Ellie Romans who had cut her hand ice skating and cant run for several weeks but came along and was a Marshal. Look for our press coverage in the local paper on Friday."
I should add here that the following parents also took part in the events which always adds a lot to the feeling of Club spirit for all including the coaches: Steve,Alice,Margaret,Nicky,Natasha,Julian, Emma, Mel and Roxanne (who incidently has just activated our Run Walk Group so a "big step up" for her!)
A big thank you is due to Head Coach, Pete Jones for managing the whole evening.
We collected £22 from Club Members to go to Sport Relief!
Mile Festival info
Langport Runners note to all members and friends sent by blind email. You are all invited to come along as spectators as well as to participate in our Festival of Mile Running.A special guest will be Adrian Marriott who will be running with us in a mile race on Wednesday 15th in an attempt to set a record time for the Huish track. Adrian is currently ranked number 5 by the UKA for 2013 V40 for 10k with 31.45 at Bristol on 5 May and UKA number 1 for 2013 for Half Marathon with 69:50 at Reading. On Monday 13th we are starting three days of running events inspired by Dr Roger Bannister who was the first in the world to run a mile in under 4 minutes on May 6th 1954. As far as I am aware our event is the first festival of mile running in Somerset. On Monday 13th Langport Runners Junior Club will be starting the series of challenges by running in relays and individual races over 1 mile on the Huish Academy grass track. Meeting as usual at Huish but please arrive 10 min early at 6.20 pm to allow time to organise the evenings events. A warm up as usual and then mile relays and mile races. Invitations to local primary schools and running clubs have been sent and events will be open to non club members. On Tuesday 14th we are being joined in this series by Huish Episcopi Academy. (see previous post for programme)
On Wednesday 15th Our normal Club Session will also be at Huish Academy sports field and not at All Saints Hall which will be closed. A similar programme of mile relays and races will be open to non members.By having the option to join with teams of 5 runners in a Paarlauf relay we believe we will achieve a very respectable 1 mile time.If you are nor running you will be welcome to help us with the organisation of the events on Monday and Wednesday. For more information contact me.David German
Mile Festival: Post to local clubs
Langport Runners have organised a three
day festival of mile running on 13,14,and 15th May at
Huish Academy using their grass track.
We are trying to find a 5 “person”
team who can share the running and carry a baton for four laps to
beat 4 min for a mile. On May 6th 1954 Roger Bannister did it on his
own so can Chard Runners get near it or beat it. You can if you wish
do it solo and we will find the fastest miler on the night.
Our Junior Club are having a go on 13th
, Huish Academy are organising their own races on 14th and
on 15th we will be getting our seniors and guests to
join in. Adrian Marriott will be running with us on the 15th.
If you have a junior group they will be very welcome on the Monday
13th to join the fun. Call me for more info on 01458
259688. All welcome.
