Junior AC

Should have circulated this earlier but better late than never. Sent out to Junior members by email and repeated here for good measure and as an example of club activities.

Langport Runners Junior Club.

Dear all ,
I'm forwarding  this as a blind copy  to everyone associated with LR Junior Club for information.  There is still just time to register. There is an U11 and U13  category. Can we get an U11 or U13  team entry?
I'll try to get these notices to you earlier next time.
David

Dear all,
Please find attached the details for this year’s Somerset Cross Country Championships which will once again be combined with the Avon & Wiltshire XC Championships. Please forward on to any athletes you think will be keen to compete and please place information on your Club website if you have access to one.
The event will be held on SUNDAY December 9th at University of Bath and a course layout map is attached.
The RACE TIMETABLE is as shown with non-Championship u11 races commencing at 11.00am.
ENTRIES need to be submitted by the deadline of MONDAY December 3rdNo late entries. Please ensure that if making an entry you submit your cheque/payment for entries by the deadline as this helps the organisers.
Team entries on the team entry form are particularly encouraged as this helps the organisers deal with just one piece of paper rather than several from the same Club. Copies of these documents will also be posted on the County AA website.
Entries rec’d by the closing date will be posted on the County websites no later than Friday Dec 7th.
I would envisage team entries from at least 4 or 5 Clubs in Somerset but would encourage all Clubs in the County to support these Championships.
I will need the names of 2 volunteers per Club competing to help marshal the course on the day (for a 90 minute stint)– please advise me by December 1st as to who these volunteers are and what time slots they can cover.
Please give me a call or an e-mail if you have any queries about eligibility or any other aspects of the County Championships and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Both the entry secretary Keith Brackstone and I will be at the Gwent XC league match at Blaise castle, Bristol,  this Saturday if you have any last minute queries.

Huish Leisure Centre training

Monday 5th  was the fourth and possibly last of our use of Huish as a training centre for the time being unless we can win the argument  about its suitability.

Hope to talk to the Manager tomorrow to try to clear a few remaining problems before we can confirm our change of venue. I'm keen to hear from parents to get their views on the choice of venue. So far all I've spoken too are in favour of what they regard as a safer running environment compared with street running at night. That goes for many of the Juniors as well.  Older , stronger Juniors can still be taken out to use the safer areas of Langport with adequate supervision and with parental consent.
We do need the  use of an indoor hall  in case of really bad weather and for a variation in our training schedules. and there are a few other factors to discuss.
Finally we do need to secure some additional funding for new equipment for the Juniors and to pay for new training courses for assistant coaches. Fund raising events may be the answer. So plenty to get on with.

Any volunteers to join us in our efforts to make our Junior Club as successful as we can make it?

Junior Schools Cross Country, Hambridge

Just made it in time this afternoon to assist by running as sweeper for the four races. I declined to run as Hare some time ago. The boys Yr 5 and 6 have some very good runners and run at a good pace, too fast for me to stay in front . Much easier trying to get the last few round to finish, which we usually achieve and that is quite satisfying. No drop outs or falls this time.

I am sure our Sam Ough won the older boys race looking very comfortable with William chasing hard and he is another of our Junior Club members. There were several more boys and girls  there as well and its good to be involved in these events. Congratulations to all those taking part and all trying hard to gain points for their School.
I hope we will get the full results soon so we can record our Club members successes.

At the same time Hannah had been invited to run in a similar schools event in the Mendip area and we await news of her run.

Friday night 2nd Nov, committee meeting.

We had a very long meeting by our usual standards and a great deal was discussed.
The dilemma facing many clubs like ours is clear when you compare the revised affiliation rates for UKA with ARC. The benefits of both can be compared and good and bad points can be made for both.  Hopefully the Club will put together a letter or statement on the subject which may form the basis of proposals to be sent out to all members before the Jan AGM. A key date soon is the next meeting of the Somerset County Athletic Association and Club representatives will be present to monitor and vote on any changes to their constitution.
ARC now has 254 affiliated clubs and 17,487 individual members and it steadily growing and may well see another increase in numbers because of UKA changes.
It was less clear what view the Committee would reach on the question of moving the Junior Club to Huish Leisure Centre.  Again reasons for and against the move were made and again it is hoped a clear statement on the move can be made next week regarding the venue for the rest of the winter. When that is issued we will all be a lot clearer.
Efforts will continue to try to resolve remaining sticking points in discussion with the management of the Leisure Centre and in attempts to raise some funding to cover costs of hiring facilities .
